At the top of my
tower of books

The profession of communicating scientific and technical
information is changing. With instant media,
anyone with an idea can put it out there without the benefit
of critical review or knowledgeable interpretation.
We want to get informed and be entertained
instantly and without much effort. We expect constant newness
and relentless drama.

But this rich diet (consumed
mostly alone in front of our computers) erodes our patience and
softens our mental rigor, both of which we need to sort
out complicated ideas. I hope to de-flab my own thinking by
reading the ideas of those who have kept mentally fit. My
book diet is as diverse as I know how to make it, covering a
broad spectrum of perspectives.
I'm open to suggestions!
